Can't add events in calendar topic

All of the sudden I can't add an event in any calender app. Google calendar just crashes when I try, aCalendar tells me I need to have at least one calendar activated under "My calendars" but there is no such place on my device. Anyone know what is going on? This happened several months ago but I can't remember what the solution was. thanks
