Need stupid basic noob help topic

Hey guys, ive been out of the whole flashing and rooting game for at least 8 months because ive had an S5 and Note 4 on at&t, and with school and summer and everything ive forgotten alot of the process to rooting, etc. I need help because it seems like the process has changed since a year ago, and honestly i just cant find any threads of straight up listed help like there used to be. What i want to do is take my stock unrooted unmodified Nexus 9 and root it, remove the encryption, and flash a custom kernel (if someone could reccomend either the ice kernel or fauxs kernel id be grateful). So, if anyone could kindly list the noob-friendly instructions or direct me to a place where theyre already written, thatd be fantastic.
