[Q] Watching "purchased" Youtube content on FireTV? topic

Many of our Disney Blurays come with a code to make them playable via the Disney Movies Anywhere app. It makes them show up in iTunes and Google Play Movies. I just noticed they also show under "purchases" in YouTube.

When I launch the YouTube app on the Fire TV, they show up under Purchases, but when I try to play them, I just get a spinning circle with play controls under it on the screen, and they never start.

Should I be able to play them?

Request: SkyGo (Germany/Deutschland) on Amazon FireTv topic

Dear XDA users,
Sky, Germanys biggest pay-tv provider, just released its first mobile app to watch Sky on the go. They stated that only a few devices are suppoted, but in several forums people state that all kind of devices succeed in running the sideloaded apk file.
Sadly the FireTV is left out, since app crashes after accepting some useage disclaimer after the first boot.
One user suggested, that Google Play Services are needed in order to boot the app properly, but installing those services on the FireTV didnt help either.

I tried to boot the app in portrait and landscape mode, no luck.
I tried a Xposed HDMI unlocking module, no luck.
I tried looking through the APK file for some settings to tinker around with, no luck.

I suppose that if somebody could get the app to run on the FireTV than its an XDA user.
Does somebody here maybe have an idea on how to get that app to run on the FireTV.
Any ideas on how to rum that app since it is compatible with many Android devices just not the beloves FireTV.

Sine the app is not international and only used in Germany and Austria the userbase is somewhat limited, maybe some kind soul will help us nonetheless :)

Bought a Harmony Hub to control my FireTV, but I'm hitting some issues. Anyone else? topic

I bought the Harmony Hub in order to have a single-remote solution for my home theater setup. The Harmony Hub can control things via Bluetooth, which is why it can control the FireTV even though it's missing an infreared port.

So I set up a Watch TV activity that powers on my TV and my receiver, and then controls the FireTV with the playback and directional buttons. Everything works great until I turn the activity off. and then back on. When everything powers back on, the remote has lost its ability to control the FireTV. it can still control the TV and receiver, however.

To fix it, I have to open up the Harmony smartphone app, issue a single command to the FireTV (which forces some sort of re-pairing) and then the remote works great again.

Does anyone else have this issue?

My Firetv is rooted, btw, so if any possible solutions require root I can do that.

[Q] Cache clearing & formating on a rooted/unrooted FireTV ?'s topic

Will start on the rooted side of things since the rooted options should cover & apply to unrooted devices. It should function the same way. Since unrooted devices only give you the few options available on the stock recovery.

My goal is to have all my FTV's rooted & on the latest PreRooted FW, latest CWM, Patially unlock bootloader & latest bootmenu. From there I would like to start as back to stock as possible. By that I mean I would like to do as clean a Factory Reset as possible while fully keeping Root, latest PreRooted FW, latest CWM, partially unlocked bootloader & latest bootmenu. To be able to achieve this I will need to understand what all the options that CWM gives me do & does not do specifically on Rooted FireTV's...

I hope @AFTVnews.com can make a full guide, maybe as an addon to: Factory Reset on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick Explained . And I hope @rbox can help.. Since one of his posts is what got me wondering about all the options...

These are the CWM cache clearing & formatting options I am aware of.. We need a write-up of what doing each one will mean for the FTV's... And which one's are a must & which ones should be avoided when trying to start from Rooted scratch.
------------------------------Wiping------------------------------
  1. - wipe data/factory reset - Should be safe to do but won't wipe everything.

  2. - wipe cache partition - Should be safe to do too but would like more info about it.

  3. - wipe dalvik cache - Should be safe too but wold like more info too.
    -------------------------Formatting-------------------------

  4. - format /boot - No idea but I think messing with this will be very dangerous since I don't know how it will react with the bootmenu & partially unlocked bootloader ??

  5. - format /cache - Not sure how much of a difference formatting the cache is from just wiping the cache.

  6. - format /system - Should never be done without having a PreRooted FW to reflash after the format. This can brick/UnRoot a device if you restart or loose power or if you don't reflash a PreRooted FW. It is probably preferable to have the FW on a mounted USB stick since doing some of the other wipes or formats will probably get rid of your FW zip in the SDCard side of things.

  7. - format /data - Need more info on this...

  8. - format /data and /data/media - Need more info on this too..

Please correct as much as possible... I will update it as things become clearer... The goal is not to go back to Stock/Stock but Rooted/Stock. So would need to know if anything will hurt Root.. Will any of this options get rid of the SU binary or as long as a PreRooted FW is reflashed it gets put back on their ???

The stock recovery seems to only give the option to...
------------------------------Wiping------------------------------
  1. - wipe data/factory reset - Should be save to do but won't wipe everything.

  2. - wipe cache partition - Should be safe to do too but would like more info about it.

Best remote for FireTV with keyboard + IR controls for TV power, volume? topic

I am looking to consolidate my TV remote, keyboard, + FireTV remote to one remote with keyboard + IR controls for my dumb TV power + volume. What is everyone else using? Recommendations?

I've been eyeing the Aerb MX3 and MeLE F10 Deluxe. I'm leaning towards the Aerb because it allows the IR buttons to be used without switching to a TV remote mode. I'm nervous about the air mouse kicking on all the time and selecting things I didn't intend to.
