Apps in internal memory or sd card? topic

Hi!

I see that some of the apps are in sd card (application manager -> sd card). But I didn't move thwm there.

1. How Android decides what apps where should be installed?

2. Are there any downsides installing apps to sd card? Except the fact that apps won't be available when sd card is removed.

3. Will progress of my games and settings of my apps will be saved in sd card after apps are reinstalled after factory reset?

Thanks!!

ZTE Blade V880 Questions on Gen2 and internal memory topic

Hi everyone,

My brother still uses his ZTE Blade 1 (The original one with the OLED Display) and is still very happy with it. But he has 2 concerns: 1. The phone got a little bit slower 2. internal is always full

So I checked it out and it still uses a custom rom called Japanese Jellyfish RLS 9 (Android 2.2) and it has Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.1.8 installed.

My plan was to update to a stable and newer rom and to edit the vold.fstab to swap internal to external (a 16gb sdcard).

But I don't have any clue, it is very hard for me to find the correct resources. So I assume this Blade is still Gen1, what are the best steps to update to Gen2, while maintaining all the Data like whatsapp history and so??

Also which is the most stable, fastest and newest ROM for the Blade? It doesn't need fancy features, it should just be fast so he can keep on using it as his main phone

Also his current fstab looks like this:

Code:

## Vold 2.0 Generic fstab
## - San Mehat (san@android.com)
##

#######################
## Regular device mount
##
## Format: dev_mount <label> <mount_point> <part> <sysfs_path1...>
## label        - Label for the volume
## mount_point  - Where the volume will be mounted
## part        - Partition # (1 based), or 'auto' for first usable partition.
## <sysfs_path> - List of sysfs paths to source devices
######################

## Example of a standard sdcard mount for the emulator / Dream
# Mounts the first usable partition of the specified device
#dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.0 /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc1

## Example of a dual card setup
# dev_mount left_sdcard  /sdcard1  auto /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.0 /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc1
# dev_mount right_sdcard /sdcard2  auto /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.1 /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc1

## Example of specifying a specific partition for mounts
# dev_mount sdcard /sdcard 2 /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.0 /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc1

dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host/mmc0

How to edit it to swap internal with external?

Thank you very much and merry christmas!

[Q] files disappeared from S3 internal storage (NO sd card) topic

My phone is a AT&T Galaxy S3, rooted, running M11 (cm11). I have NO sd card in the phone. The internal storage capacity is about 12 GB.

During a recent trip, I used the phone as a storage device, i.e. transfer files from my Canon camera to my phone regularly. I stored about 5GB of files (mostly pictures & videos) from my Canon camera to my Galaxy S3 during the past week during my trip. At the end of the trip, the phone had about 1GB internal storage left.

This afternoon, I copied another big file (a DVD file) to the S3 internal storage, that left only about 400MB of space. I thought that might be too low, so I deleted some apps to free up spaces, it leaves about 700MB space after that.

Then I was going to copy those 5GB pictures & videos from S3 internal storage to my PC, the copy keeps failing. I tried rebooting the phone -- after rebooting, A LOT of my files are gone. Now, the phone has 9GB space left! Looks like a lot of files/folders are gone, it does not appear any apps are gone.

Any one has any idea what might go wrong, obviously, my main concern is to recovery those 5GB pictures & videos from my last trip. Note that those 5GB pictures & videos are originally not in DCIM folder, I put them in a separate folder in the phone.

Since I noticed the lost files, I've stopped using the file to avoid any more writing to the phone. Also, since I've never used a SD card with this phone, I believe it should have nothing to do with LOST.DIR issue. TIA!

[Q] Swapping SDcard from external to internal gone wrong. topic

I have a rooted and unlocked C2104. I tried swapping external and internal and ended up changing mount points that is my phone now recognizes my microsd card as internal. Now since the microsd card does not have bootloader and other nand files, it does not recognize it when i use power button. I find only 2 solutions throught internet:
1: To replace the motherboard.
2. To make sdcard as internal and install bootloader into it to make the phone boot from it and then flash ftf via fllashtool.
I dont know if it can be done, but if anyone can please give me the size and mountpoints of nand partition then i think i can pull it off. Help me please.

[Q] Swap internal and external memory on P6 topic

Help!
I'm running out of memory on my phone!
I only have like 400 mb available on my internal memory but nearly
28 gb on my SD card. But despite that the asks well not download onto that
and I've moved all the "movable" apps into the SD card. So here's the question:
Does anyone know how to make the phone "think" that the external SD card is the internal memory and the provided 4 gb that you can use is the external.
Thanks in advance.

[Howto][Android-x86] Mount Internal Windows Partition (NTFS) in Android-x86 topic

Mount Internal Windows Partition (NTFS) in Android-x86.

Android-x86 project is one of the new and exciting offshoot of Android platform solely developed by the community. Our Android community has contributed very heavily for the development of Android as one of the most loved platform for both users and the development community as a whole. Custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod, OmniROM, SlimRom, AOKP, Paranoid Android and many more community developed ROM's rock our beloved devices, including latest flagships to aged Legends such as HTC HD2, Motorola Defy(+). One such community developed Android ROM is the Android-x86 Project.

Android-x86 project aims porting the android experience as whole to the x86 architecture platform. This includes our laptops, desktops and x86 based tablets. Although android is a mobile platform specifically developed for phones, tablets and newly introduced wearable devices such as smart watches and Google Glass eyewear, google has not introduced the android as an operating system into the desktop-laptop segment. Google is sticking with its Chrome OS for desktops and is now trying to introduce android app to the Chrome OS. Android-x86 project patches that gap for us.

Android-x86 is like an elixer for our old desktops and laptops wiith lower capability processors and rams, such as pentium and atoms by introducing a modern OS with a lower requirement. It gives those devices a new life. But it is also not perfect yet and has many drawbacks. One such drawback is that it can't mount the internal NTFS partitions of the HDD, in case of the Multibooting Android-x86 with Windows Operating Systems. Many has tried it before but failed. Recently I came upon a chinese website which depicted a process of mounting internal ntfs partitions using a library named mount_nfsd_fuse.

Steps :
1. Download the mount_nfsd_fuse file from the download link provided below or here
2. Place the the downloaded file in the /system/xbin/ folder using a root enabled file manaager, eg. ES File Explorer, Root Explorer and and change to approriate permission.
3. Open Terminal ( If no terminal app installed, download one from Google Play), and obtain Su permission.
4. Mount the NTFS partitions using the code for example :
mkdir /storage/D
mount_nfsd_fuse /dev/block/sda2 /storage/D
format : mount_nfsd_fuse /dev/block/(partition) /(mount point)
5. (Optional) You can automate the process of mounting on boot by adding these lines to the /etc/init.sh file.
6. You can make a Windows style My Computer Icon using ES explorer widget pointing to the mounting folder such as in my example /Storage use it as a my computer alternative for android.

NOTE : All internal HDD partitions are stored at /dev/block/ folder. And so far I have failed mounting C drive , sda1, and sda10 partitions. Feel free to poke around.

[HELP] Lost Access to Internal Storage topic

Running 5.0.1 stock but rooted, and TWRP 2.8.1.0. Noticed that I had no longer had access to my TWRP backups outside of recovery, so I flashed the "fix permissions" file found attached to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...04&postcount=2 which I had believed merely automated the "su / restorecon -FR /data/media/0 / reboot" commands.

After I rebooted my internal storage was blank, although all of my apps and settings are still there and everything works. I can't take new photographs or save new settings though. Trying to create a test blank folder in internal storage fails. Clearly I've gone ahead and broken something.

I have a full nandroid backup from a couple of days ago, right before I updated from 5.0 to 5.0.1, but I suspect there's a simpler solution to get all of my stuff back than that. Would appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm far from an expert though, so straightforward steps on how to fix this would be very much appreciated. The only thing I could find from googling were the commands above, which surely the file I flashed has already tried to do (and it didn't work).

I'd add that in recovery I can see all of my files and folders just fine.

Soft Bricked my phone, Wiped internal memory topic

Hi,

I was trying to flash cloudy g3, I put in all the files necessary into the phone, went to the recovery and wiped everything including internal memory.

Now I am stuck as I cant transfer anything into my phone.

PC doesn't recognize it, so I can't use adb sideload.
I can get into download mode and recovery

I tried using OTG but TWRP won't mount it.
I tried using back to stock method but since the computer doesn't recognize it, there is no way to do that.

Please help
